Borderway Store and Weaned Cattle Sale

Harrison & Hetherington had an entry of 984 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 505 Store Cattle, 190 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 289 Calves.

STORE CATTLE – A very good show of 505 store cattle forward at Borderways weekly sale whereby all cattle remain an absolute flyer of a trade.  Well fleshed cattle were the easiest to sell on the day with leaner, plainer types harder to cash as expected.  Top overall was West Cumbrian farmers Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth achieving an enormous £1730 for a British Blue cross steer.  Next best was a beef Shorthorn from Brian Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton who received £1670.  The Crichton family of Rottington Hall, Whitehaven sold top of their run to £1510 for a Simmental cross.  Messrs Brough Clappers Farm, Wigton sold their top to £1490 for a Charolais cross.

Heifers peaked at £1545 again for a Charolais cross with vendors being Messrs Graham, Hillhead, Canonbie.  Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm sold second top at £1520 for their Limousin cross and Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall sold the top price Beef Shorthorn heifers to £1470 and £1410.

Black and whites were forward in very good quality and plenty size peaking at £1315 and £1290 for Holsteins Friesian for Rose Farm, Cockermouth and £1280 for a Fleckvieh from Messrs Crichton, Limekilns Farm, Annan

WEANED CATTLE : Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of young bulls and weaned cattle.  Bulls a thoroughly good trade again with Limousins topping at £1330 twice from Messrs Pattinson, Bonshawside and Messrs Henshall, Sarkshields.  Other Limousins bulls were up to £1270 from Messrs Hall,  Horsleygills and £1230 from Messrs Cowan,The Ash.  Simmental bulls reached heights of £1185 and £1110 from McColm and Brewis, Awhirk Farm .  Beef Shorthorns bullocks sold to £960 from Messrs Hewson, Parton Farm.  Limousin bullocks to £900 from Messrs Armstrong, Broomhills and £985 for Herefords again from Messrs Hewson.  Holstein Friesians topped at £850 then £800 for a pen of four from Mr Rushton, Nivana.  Aberdeen Angus to £825 from Messrs Moore, Brayshaw.  Heifers were also a really impressive trade with a good Limousin selling to £1020 from JM & R Dixon, Westfield Cottage.  The same vendor also sold the top price British Blue heifer at £890.  Aberdeen Angus heifers topped at £840 from Messrs Moore Brayshaw. With all classes of stock well bid for and an extremely busy ringside of buyers more cattle are needed in the bull and weaner ring.
