Harrison & Hetherington had forward 1264 cattle at their weekly sale comprising of a catalogued entry of 544 Store Cattle, 167 Un-entered store bulls and weanlings and 410 Calves. Also this day was the monthly Border and Lakeland Club sale with an entry of 143 dairy cattle.
STORE CATTLE – A very mixed show of cattle forward to another large ringside of buyers, spiralling feed costs are now starting to take their toll with buyers showing more caution. A septuplet of cattle reached £1600 and beyond with a bullock and a heifer topping the market at £1630, the first was a Charolais bullock from Messrs Thompson, Horsegills, Kirklinton also achieving this price was Messrs Stamper, Rose Farm, Cockermouth with a Limousin x heifer. Native cattle sold to £1620 for a Beef Shorthorn bullock from Messrs Robinson, Gelt Hall, Brampton.

WEANED CATTLE : Weaned cattle were quieter on the week. Both vendors and purchasers seeing plainer cattle harder to sell. Quality nevertheless still very well bid for. Top price of the day was in the bull section for an excellent Limousin bull from Messrs Wigham, Hargill House, Coanwood, Haltwhistle selling to £1320 with others from the same home to £1280 and £1240. Quality clean cattle were also well bid for seeing bullocks selling to a very respectable £1090 for a Limousin steer from Messrs Graham, Fell View, Bothel, Wigton. Heifers topped at £990 for a British Blue from Messrs Carr, Pasture House, Bowness on Solway, Wigton.
