NETHERVALLEY TOPS WITH ELEGANCE 

The Border & Lakeland Club sale once again lived up to its reputation as being the number one choice for quality with another super offering of cows and heifers many bred from attractive pedigrees.  Trade topped at 2,700gns with the average for milking heifers coming to £1806 the event included the Nethervalley Summer Sensation sale were trade topped at 3,500gns for a super Red & White heifer.  The trade dropped for the second consecutive month and continues to be a buyers’ market. 

Dugdale Nutrition sponsored the show and George Borland from the Mossbog Holstein herd in Ayrshire judged the classes.  The Overall Champion went to Espland Meridian Amber who was part of the Espland dispersal sale of the Cannon family from near Appleby.  She had an outstanding udder with super stylish frame and sold for 2,500gns to Mr Esquierdo in Ayrshire. 

The Reserve Champion went to Stardale Rager Vaakje Red consigned by the Burrow family from Lancashire.  She was sired by Rager Red and bred from ten generations of Excellent or Very Good cows.  She topped the trade at 2,700gns going to Mr Talbot from near Preston.  Eight other animals from the home sold to average over £2200.

The cow trade topped at 2,600gns for Errolston Deify Destiny consigned by the Davidson family.  She was sired by Bush-Bros Deify and had classified VG88 in her second lactation completing eleven generations of Excellent cows from the Blackstar Raven cow family.  This powerful framed cow was purchased by Mr Sharp in Yorkshire. 

Robbie and Margo Scott sold 50 well bred heifers in their Nethervalley Summer Sensation Sale featuring in-calf, recently bred and yearling heifers many pedigree from world class pedigrees.  This very attractive group averaged £1545 with the in-calf and recently served heifers averaging over £1700.   

Topping this special consignment and the overall trade on the day was Nethervalley Rager Elegance Red selling for 3,500gns to Mr Esquierdo in Ayrshire.  She was bred from the Krull Broker Elegance cow family with her 4th, 5th and 6th dams all scoring Excellent 96.

Selling for 3,000gns was a close to perfect daughter of Crushtime bred from three Excellent dams.  Nethervalley Crushtime Babybird was a granddaughter of Clauchlands Blackbird EX95 who is a six time Grand Champion at numerous shows across Scotland and was Nominated All Britain Mature Cow in 2018.  This classy heifer was purchased by the Donald family from Ling Farm in Cumbria.

Nethervalley Rager Epic sold for 2,800gns, her 5th dam was Krull Broker Elegance and is potentially the tenth generation of direct Excellent cows.  Her grand dam was purchased in the Bowberhill dispersal sale and has developed into a herd favourite at Nethervalley scoring EX94 and is now close to 100 ton.  This heifer was purchased by Mr Montgomery from Newlands Farm.   

The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on the 1st September and features 350 dairy cattle in Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale.   The Annandale dispersal takes place on farm on Tuesday 24th August and features 450 Holstein cattle including all the youngstock.  Catalogues for these sales can be viewed online at www.harrisonandhetherington.co.uk or can be order from the Pedigree Office 01228 406230
