It is a well-known fact that agriculture and forestry are the most dangerous professions in the UK, with the worst rate of fatalities. To help try and reduce these frightening statistics F3A - Farmer and Forestry First Aid was established in 2019.
Mark Byers an emergency medicine consultant developed this tailor made first aid training course together with trauma doctors and paramedics. The course been endorsed by The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (Faculty of Pre Hospital Care) the first farmers trauma course to gain this recognition. It is a practical course on how to deal with life threatening incidents and accidents which may occur in and around farm and forestry environments. It covers basic lifesaving skills and provides hands on experience of scenarios that can and do occur in rural settings such as crush injuries and impalement, giving the course attendees the skills for the critical period before emergency services arrive.
The courses are delivered by volunteer doctors, nurses, and paramedics who have a passion to make a difference in rural communities having witnessed one to many critical incidents. The courses are held on farms and at auction marts for 8 to 12 attendees. To date nearly 750 people have been trained over a large geographical area stretching from central Scotland to the south of Yorkshire. Course participants each receive a mini trauma kit.
Feedback from our courses has been first class one of our attendees stating, “The course was incredible having done previous courses during my career, this was by far the most interesting, informative and best to take part in”.
F3A is delighted to receive a donation of £1000.00 from H&H Group to assist deliver the day at Stannington, gathering together Trustees, Training Directors, Volunteer Trainers and partnership organisations of the charity, Moira Fisher, a F3A trustee and farmer said, “we are very grateful to be receive this generous sponsorship from the H&H Group which has helped us provide a delicious lunch and hospitality for our growing team of volunteers, in recognition of time and expertise they give.
