A Strong Start to the Year for Cattle Prices and Machinery Sales

Cattle prices are hitting record highs, and it’s certainly an exciting time for the industry. Cast cows are now selling at over £4 per kilo, while stock bulls are making over £4,000 a head. Store cattle prices continue to soar, averaging around £2,000 per head, with bulls reaching up to £3,000.

The sun was shining for a second time on Mag Pandor when it scooped Supreme Champion at Harrison & Hetherington’s 2025 Borderway UK Dairy Expo The 2025 Borderway UK Dairy Expo was a world class event with world class dairy genetics, the highest calibre of entries and an impressive line-up of young judges. Held on Friday 14th and Saturday 15th March at Borderway Mart, thousands of people attended, and through its livestreaming, thousands from around the world joined the judging and excitement virtually.

While these soaring prices bring significant returns for farmers selling livestock, it raises a critical question: where do we go from here, and how sustainable is this trend in the short and long term? The major retailers may be able to balance the books by price rises on other commodities, but how long can they sustain this until the consumer pays the price? In the immediate future, the global livestock market remains strong, but many experts believe we are approaching a ceiling.
