Latter Fair Gimmer Lamb Sale

Borderway, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS

On Thursday 16th September Harrison and Hetherington held their annual ‘Latter Fair Sale’ of Mule gimmer lambs.

A sale famed for its exceptional quality offering of North of England Mule gimmer lambs certainly lived up to expectations. Buyers gathered from near and far, with a large number of local supporters. The majority of ringside fanciers were keen to secure strong tupping hoggs, this class of sheep met a trade unrivalled in any Auction Market this season.

The pre sale judging fell into the expert hands of local Mule enthusiasts Master Thomas Hird, Westray Farm, Cockermouth and Mr Ian Sowerby, Terrys Farm, Appleby in Westmorland, with Mr William Hird, Townhead, Wigton acting as Referee. Stood before them were eleven of the finest pens of lambs, which would grace any Auction Mart in the north. Their Champion pen were consigned by noted breeders Messrs Smith-Jackson, Hightown, Haltwhistle, they went on to top the sale at £350 purchased by Thomas Hird. Reserve Champion pen traveled from the same district as the Champion and led the consignment from Messrs Moore, Highside, this striking pen achieved the second top price of £320 and sold to Josh Geary, Milton Keynes.

An overall average of £131.01 was recorded with NEMSA lambs levelling at a record £136.87
