Middleton Suckled Calf Show & Sale

Middleton-in-Teesdale, Station Road, Middleton-in-Teesdale, Co Durham, DL12 0PJ

On Tuesday 9th November 2021 Harrison & Hetherington held their annual show and sale of Suckled Calves within Middleton in Teesdale Auction Mart which saw an entry of 548 sold

This highly anticipated and noted event was kindly sponsored by Eden Farm Supplies, Farmers Guardian, David Teward, Jamesons, CA Stamp and HHIB

The pre-sale judging was carried out by Mr Blair Dufton who carried out his duties with great expertise.

41 cattle were forward for judging with the Limousin classes drawing 15 bullocks and 12 heifers

The Championship rosette, National Westminster heifer trophy and the Phillip Beadle Trophy were awarded to the first prize British Blue cross heifer shown by TW Hutchinson, Bail Hill which was purchased by the judge for £2800.

The Reserve Championship rosette and receiving the National Westminster bullock trophy was the first prize British Blue bullock from DJ Mallon, Pallet Cragg which sold at £1380 to P & B Hodgson & Sons, Boston.

Receiving the Pikestone Rose Bowl for the best Limousin sired animal was the first prize heifer from first time consignor Gary Bell, Haas Side, this heifer went on to sell for a sale topping £4000 to Mark & Sarah Harryman, Pickering.

The pens of 3 or more was kindly judged by Mr W Miller, Wigton his winning pen came from Messrs S & RE Williamson which sold at £1110

Outwith the show the trade at Middleton was nothing short of incredible, the ring being three deep with buyers all keen to secure top quality cattle of which they are accustomed to seeing and for which each and every vendor must be congratulated, this resulted in the calves levelling at £1060.09 for the bullocks, a rise of £166.74  and £1030.90 for the heifers, a rise of £162.63 giving an overall average of £1045.97 being well in advance of other local centres.
