Nerewater Herd Top with Daisy
The second British Friesian Day at Borderway attracted both sellers and buyers from across the UK and Ireland. The sale included the dispersal of the Milkroft herd from Cleveland along with an exceptional group of heifers from the Lismulligan herd that were bred from pedigrees with oceans of milk, impressive classifications, and outstanding longevity. Trade topped at 1,920gns for a fresh heifer with the average for the recently calved milkers coming to £1711.
Milkroft Dispersal Sale
The Milkroft British Friesian Pedigree herd was owned by Mary Miller and her sons Paul and Tony who had decided to retire from dairy farming this fine herd had been under the Miller family’s stewardship for several generations.
Topping the Milkroft dispersal was Milkroft Peaceful 178 who sold for 1,750gns to the Harrison family from near Penrith. Peaceful was sired by Trigger and had recently calved in her fifth lactation and was giving 35kgs. Her daughter by Peartree Bryster sold for to Mr Fox from Heathersgill.
Numerous animals sold for 1,700gns including Milkroft Primula 220 who was bought by Mr Wilson from Ivegill. This young milking heifer was sired by Lakemead Jingle, her grand dam produced over 60 ton lifetime.
Lismulligian British Friesians
Probably the best group of heifers to ever sell from the Lismulligan herd was consigned by the Lawson family who farm in Fife. This tidy group of bulling and maiden heifers averaged almost £983 and topped at 1,800gns for Lismulligan Priscilla 67 her grand dam was the two time UK Dairy Expo Grand Champion Lismulligan Priscilla 41. Her dam is one of the hottest young cows in the breed winning the two year old class at UK Dairy Expo in March and went on to be Hon. Mention Grand Champion, she was also the winning heifer at Agriscot in November. This little beauty sold for 1,800gns to Will Williamson owner of the Barrowmorr herd in Appleby.
Show style was oozing from Lismuiigan Grey 2 who sold for 1,700gns to Mr Moscrop owner of the Rye Close herd near Carlisle. Grey had recently won Reserve Junior Champion at the Royal Highland Show in June, she was sired by Bradash Contender and was bred from five generations of Excellent cows
Nerewater British Friesians
The overall top price went to Nerewater Daisy 16 who was consigned by Richard Bell. These super uddered heifer sold for 1,920gns to Mr Burgess from Dumfries. She was sired by Nerewater Reliant and bred from two generations of EX94 classified dams.
Winnoch British Friesians
The Winnoch herd sold a very milky group of recently calved heifers to average over £1700 topping at 1,750gns for Winnoch Dillette 56 who was sired by Aintree Penrod and was bought by the Foster family from Brampton.
