On Wednesday 28th September the foremost and original Mule Gimmer Lamb centre delivered the sale of the season at the much anticipated “Alston Moor” show and sale. Despite falling stock numbers on the hills due to the government’s desire to feed the country through planting trees this prestigious event still provides the real harvest of the fells and this year’s yield will see farmers prosper for another year. A 10 year lease was secured last year by Harrison and Hetherington and improvements around the mart have been greatly welcomed as we continue to be fully invested in ensuring the future of the agricultural & local community in such areas stand strong for further generations. The sale averages were up a magnificent £18.05 on last years sale with an overall average of £130.65 with NEMSA lambs at £133.03 and non NEMSA at £126.12. from start to finish the trade was flying with the last quarter of the sale actually lifting averages, Something which other centres this year have struggled to maintain and indeed many more could have been sold to vendors advantage. The pre sale show for NEMSA lambs was kindly judged by Mr Anthony Spencer and Thomas Hird with Stephen Ridley acting as referee the champion rosette & Bill Armstrong Memorial Trophy was awarded top pen and consigned by Messrs Reed, Lands Farm, Eastgate to cap the day off this pen later sold for a centre record of £800 per head selling to Messrs Fenemore, Buckingham.
