Borderway Calf Sale

On Wednesday 19^th February Harrison and Hetherington held their weekly sale of Calves where new  record averages were achieved.  All sections sold to extreme rates with vendors seeing another increase in trade.  A whooping 30 calves sold over £700 with 3 over £800.  Majority of these calves were between 2 and 3 months of age.

Averages

 127 Bulls av £525.48 (+£40.14)   

 115 Heifers av £472.28 (+£37.12)   

 33 B&W av £264.69 (+£54.94)

The sale topped today at £810 for a pair of 3 month old Angus bulls from T & J Airey, New Grange.  This was followed by a 2 month old Blue Bull calf from Bluestone Farming Ltd reaching £800.  W & D Threlkeld,  Ladywells sold a Blue bull to £780, with T W Martin, Tempest Tower selling a 2 month old Blue to £760.  Evening Hill Farm Ltd, sold a 1 month old Blue bull to £720, with their consignment of 12 calves average £653.  Limousin bulls sold to £740 from D & M Irving, Brunt Hill.   A F Ramsey, Gillespie, Glenluce sold a tremendous run of calves to £750 and averaged £711 for 9 sold.  A 1 month old Charolais sold to £650 from TA & ML Jackson, Guillyhill.  Messrs Reed, Mosside sold Blues to £760 and averaged £712.50.  Hereford sold to £680 from R J Raven Ltd, Crookdake Hall.

Heifers sold to £720 for an Angus from R J Raven Ltd, Crookdale Hall.  Messrs Reed, Mosside sold Blue heifers to £700.  M Henderson, Dalston sold Blue heifers to £700, with a pair at £670.  Evening Hill Farm, Ltd solds a 2 month old Blue heifer to £660.  They also sold another at £630.  A pair of Limousin heifers sold to £630 from D & M Irving Farming.  J Bailey, Moorhouse sold a 1 month Blue heifer to £540.

Black and whites sold to £460 for a 3 month from W & D Threlkeld, Ladywells. A pair of Holsteins sold to £440 for 3 month olds from H & EM Hunter, Berrier Head.  A V Elwen, Netherfield Farm, also sold a Holstein to £425.  Messrs Wilson, Woodside Ltd sold a 2 month old to £420.
