APPLE IS THE BEST ASSET FOR BERRYHOMLE
Milkers average £3039
Quality cows and heifers bred from outstanding cow families filled the June catalogue for the Border & Lakeland Sale. Renowned Holstein names packed the catalogue that included Lulu, Ashlyn, Apple, Paradise, Dandy, Roxy and Rhaposdy all with outstanding production, confirmation and massive lifetime production. Trade topped at 3,800gns to average £3039 with demand remaining strong as the demand for autumn milk increases.
The show was sponsored by Finance For Farms and was judged by one of the up and coming stars in the Border & Lakeland Club, Mr Oliver Mawson from the Baileyground Herd in Seascale in West Cumbria. He selected Newtonmoss Milano Lulu as his Overall Champion who was consigned by the Fisher family from Penrith . She was sired by Milano and will be the thirteenth generation of Excellent or Very Good cows going back to the famous Tora Triple Threat Lulu. This super framed heifer sold for 3,300gns to the Gaitskell family from near Carlisle.
Standing Reserve Champion was Espland Nashville Rhapsody who was consigned by Alan Cannon from Espland Farm near Appleby. She was sired by Nashville and was bred from an outstanding line of the Rhapsody family going back to Pinehurst in Wisconsin. She sold for 3,200gns to Mr Talbot who farms near Preston. The Espland herd sold another four heifers to average £3031.
Top price went to Berryholme Parfect Asset who was consigned by the Wright family from Kendal, she sold for 3,800gns to Stu Forshaw from Lancashire. Asset was sired by Parfect and will be the tenth generation to classify Excellent, her third dam is the greatest cow in Holstein history the famous Regiment daughter known as Apple.
Another heifer from the Berryholme herd sold for 3,500gns this time for Berryholme Chief Amy who was bought by Hew Howie from Stranraer. She will be the seventh generation to classify Excellent going back to Encore’s greatest daughter Tri-Day Ashlyn.
The Holehouse herd owned by the Logan family from Ayrshire sold eight heifers to average £3012 and topped at 3,300gns for Holehouse Actor Patsy Red. She was sired by Actor-Red and was bought by Mt Montgomery from Glasgow.
The next dairy sale at Borderway takes place on Wednesday 2nd July and features 400 dairy cattle in the Borderway Monthly Dairy Day Sale comprising freshly calved cows and heifers, dry cows, in calf heifers and bulling heifers. On Tuesday 1st July the Pathway Of Panda Sale takes place at Molland Ridge Farm in Devon featuring 70 Elite Red & White and Black & White Holsteins.
