Harrison & Hetherington Ltd, Kirkby Stephen mart held their annual prize NEMSA show and sale of Gimmer Lambs on Friday 12th September, where a catalogued entry of 7,805 lambs were on offer.
An fantastic overall sale average of £167.14 was achieved with this being £12.76 up on the year and includes many full consignments of lambs with a large percentage of running lambs forward within this average.
The sale topped at £650 for the a pen of ten lambs from Messrs Hutchinson, Redgate, Kirkby Stephen which were purchased by Ross Sizmur, Okehampton.
The overall championship was awarded to Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange, Great Asby which went on to sell for £450 to Messrs Brown, Leyburn.

Messrs Capstick, Lockholme Hall, Ravenstonedale sold the second prized pen in the restricted class which went on to sell for £450 to Messrs Hewitt, Eskewbeck Farm, Lancaster.
Messrs Alderson, Howgill Grange, Baldersdale sold the firth prize pen to make £400 which were purchased by Messrs Holmes, Langton Gate, Appleby in Westmorland.
Messrs Brown, Asby Hall, Great Asby sold a pen of ten at £370 and another pen of 15 at £300 both selling to Messrs Winter, Appleby in Westmorland.
The Reserve Championship was awarded to the second prize pen in the open class to Messrs Dent, Greenriggs, Kirkby Stephen and was sold for £360 to Messrs Allen, Saltburn by the Sea.
Messrs Hutchinson, Redgate also sold two pens of ten to make £340.
A further three pens sold for £300 from Messrs Luck, Milestone House; Messrs Alderson, Howgill Grange and Kilnstown Farm.
The first prize small breeders rosette was awarded to Messrs Stepehnson, The Gables, Ravenstonedale which went on to sell for £280 and was purchased by Messrs Addison, The Oaks, Romaldkirk.
Buyers weren’t frighted to purchase large penfulls of tupping lambs with Kilnstown Farm selling a pen of 20 to make £225, with Messrs Buckle, Bleathgill selling a pen of 19 at £200 and a pen of 21 at £195.
Messrs Luck Milestone House sold two pens of 25 and 23 to make £198 with another pen of 25 making £195 from this home.
Messrs Hayton, Asby Grange and Messrs Fawcett, Argill House both sold pens of twenty to make £195.
Messrs Dent Greenriggs sold a pen of thirty to make £192. This home also won the Peter Pratt cup for the best run of Mule Gimmer lambs which was kindly judged by Ron & Fran Wilson.
The busiest ringsides of buyers seen for many years created a wonderful buzz around the ring reaffirming the popularity and great reputation the North of England Mule Sheep has before it. Credit must go to all our consigners who strive to breed top quality North of England Mule Gimmer Lambs which are fit to travel and perform anywhere in the country!
With many new and regular customers been in attendance travelling from Abeerdeen to Cornwall and from most other counties of the British isles. Plenty of potential buyers were in attendance with many other going away empty handed.
All classes of tupping lambs were in strong demand and the majority of the stronger tuppers selling between £190-£260.
Running lambs with colour and of good quality regularly sold between £150-£160 with most of the runners selling over £140.
