CUTHILL TOWERS TOP AT BORDERWAY
The October Borderway Monthly Dairy Day sale had a diverse catalogue packed with quality animals from several breeds with various stages of lactation on offer. Borderway Centre hosted 1435 cattle in total to once again turn over £2 million pounds through the four rings. The dairy sale featured 274 cattle with values remaining strong for all categories. Trade topped at 3,700gns with the overall average for heifers coming to £2976. Buyers from across the UK packed the ringside with cattle going to 15 counites in England, Scotland and Wales.
Topping the sale at £3700 was Cuthill Towers Calcutta Miss Blonde who was consigned by the Lawrie family from Kinross. She was bred from an Excellent dam with massive production records. In total 11 Ayrshire heifers sold from this herd to average £3195 including Cuthill Towers Blizzard Steph who sold for £3600.
The Wadsworth family from Big Balcraig Farm in Newton Stewart sold ten exceptional heifers topping at £3600 to average £3360. They were sired by Glamour Captivate and Genosource Captain all had high PLI and were producing oceans of milk.
The Livingstone family from Kirtlevale Farm near Gretna sold 10 heifers to average £3057 topping at £3350 for Kirtlevale Chief Abby who is by Stantons Chief.
The Forester family from Wear Hall Style Farm near Wigton sold an outstanding group of high yielding cows and topped the cow trade with Newstyle Christine who sold for £3,300. She was sired by Blumfield Frazld Brass and was giving 60kgs.
Alan Dunlop from Searigg Farm near Dumfries sold a super high quality group of British Friesian heifers topping at £3000 for a daughter of Lakemead Jingle.
Peepy Farm from Northumberland sold a tremendous group of Irish Zealand Friesian cows that were confirmed pregnant for May to the Hereford and British Blue. They topped at £2450 for a second lactation cow that was giving 24kgs. This impressive group averaged £1526.
In calf heifers were once again in demand topping at £2450 to average £2160. The best trade for a daughter of AltaAmulet that was due shortly to AltaRegulus sexed, she was sold by the Moffat family from East Tarbrax Farm near Lanark.
Serveral groups of bulling heifers were on offer topping at £1600 on two occasions to average £1392.
